The Bill Raby Diabetes Fellowship was established by the Board of the Diabetes Association of the NT Inc. (trading as Healthy Living NT) in 2005 as a means of recognising the significant contribution of Bill Raby OBE to the Association and the well-being of people with diabetes in the NT.
From 2005-2015 the Fellowship provided opportunity to health professionals in the NT, to further their knowledge and understanding in the field of diabetes through the provision of financial support for CPD activities and, by doing so, improve the quality and delivery of services to Territorians with diabetes. Since inception, the Fellowship has awarded over $97,000 to 30 health professionals over a range of professions and studies in the field of diabetes. 87% of successful Fellows were from outside the Darwin region.
In 2015, the Board of Healthy Living NT reviewed the Fellowship and agreed to broaden its scope of application. In keeping with its aim to enhance the well-being of people with diabetes in the NT, effective from 2016, Fellowship support opportunities have been expanded to the following three categories:
As support directed towards youth with diabetes and community chronic disease initiatives is more synonymous with Healthy Living NT’s nature and purposes, these areas will have precedence in Fellowship funding availability
